FIU CasaCuba

CasaCuba is a groundbreaking initiative by Florida International University (FIU), designed to serve as a global hub for the study of Cuba and a celebration of Cuban heritage. Positioned at a key entrance to FIU’s main campus, this multi-story 57,876 SF building serves as a landmark of cultural preservation and academic excellence. The primary structural system consists of a precast joist system supported by soffit beams and cast-in-place concrete columns. The exterior is designed as a combination of non-load-bearing architectural precast panels and curtain walls, with the latter forming a parapet in some locations. The exterior stairs are constructed of cast-in-place concrete.

The facility features classrooms, seminar rooms, and administrative offices alongside immersive digital storytelling display areas and experiential exhibits, bringing Cuban history to life through interactive engagement. Additionally, CasaCuba includes small and large gallery spaces, exhibit support areas, and a banquet hall with a fully equipped catering area, enhancing its ability to host events and cultural programming. The design also incorporates an exterior courtyard with performance space.
