Rene Gonzalez Architects are the designers of this 4-story, 45,000-SF structure on Biscayne Boulevard in Edgewater, with 91 foot cantilevered floors creating a dramatic entrance to the lobby. The long cantilevered structure was achieved utilizing smart design of tilt-up panels that bear on their previous panels and connected together with a tension strut at their top. The building is specifically designed to accommodate the height of Turrell’s “Aten Reign” light sculpture along with a skylight above. The Building includes space for the permanent gallery of the Foundation’s collection of contemporary art as well as space for
temporary art shows.
The building features a prominent outdoor plaza that houses Richard Serra’s 180-foot-long “Passage of Time” surrounded by a tall cantilevered glass wall to allow visibility to pedestrians and motorists.
